A Borderlands movie adaptation has been in the works since 2015!
Director, Eli Roth signed up onto a film adaptation for Gearbox’s Borderlands games. Joining Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin and the producers Avi & Ari Arad.
Eli Roth had offered little detail about the movie project, which has been in the work since 2015. He had celebrated the news by Tweeting a photo of a shirtless and heavily muscular “psycho” bandits with his face cropped onto it.
A press release quoted by Deadline, Roth had said that he looks forward to “Bringing his own energy, ideas, and vision to the wild, fun, and endlessly creative world of the game.” Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president, Nathan Kahane had elaborated that “With Eli’s vision on Craig’s screenplay, we believe we have cracked the code on bringing the anarchic would of Borderlands to the big screen in a big way that will be a fresh, compelling and cinematic event for moviegoers and fans of the game.” Randy Pitchford, Gearbox founder, is also an executive producer of the new Borderlands movie. And Roth calls him and others at Gearbox “Incredibly supportive of my ideas.”
The quotes seem to be towards promising that the Borderlands movie will be recognizably directed by Roth. Which he’s known for ultra violent horror movies like Hostel and or The Green Inferno, and his role in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.
